The Brokeback Mountain

A spring shower falls gently outside. I am in my room, staring out the window.

Just moments before, I had flipped the last leaf of Brokeback Mountain. A short story by Annie Proulx in her collection of stories; Close Range: Wyoming Stories.

It’s the first time I’ve cried from reading a book. The author wrote with such invention. Somehow it wasn’t out rightly sad, but it was the way in which she used simple details to evoke a connection with the character’s feelings. It was a great read. Yes, it’s Gay Literature, but at least it’s from a Pulitzer prize winner. You guys should have a read, if you haven’t already. It’s only about 35 pages.

The motion-picture directed by Ang Lee, based on this book is coming out at the end of this year.

I really do want to watch it, but I also really want to have someone to watch it with.

Silent Sigh........

No insult to your author but the "brokeback mountain" really sounds too much like "bareback mounting" to a me... giggle.... possibly part of the marketing??

We definitely won't get it in Malaysia. Have to wait for the DVD version.

Yes, I agree with AJ, brokeback sounds so much like bareback. ;P

hey 'drew, just borrow from the uni library like moi :)

I can't wait to see it!! and bawl my eyes out... talk about masochism!!

I dunno if it'll be showing in aus, but i'll b back in M'sia in December...hopefully the pirates will have a copy by then.. coz this one looks like a keeper :)
I hope the censorship board looks at it as more of a love story rather than focus on it's homosexuality...
coz it'll be fun watching it in the movies... room full of crying fags..then i'll get to choose someone to hug and cry with.. heh heh.. here's to wishful thinking!
